Social Recreation

Purpose
The purpose of Creative Minds ADP Inc., Social Recreation Program, is to provide person-centered opportunities for individuals with developmental disabilities to develop and maintain meaningful relationships, participate in recreational and community activities, increase independence, develop social and life skills, and enhance their overall quality of life.
Philosophy
The program will operate according to the principle that every individual has the right to meaningful relationships, recreation, community participation, and opportunities to make choices about how they spend their free time.
Service Components
The curriculum will vary however the overarching objective will be to support individuals in further developing social skills, relationship building, advocacy, and decision-making skills.
Social Skill Development
  • Initiating and maintaining conversations.
  • Greeting others.
  • Taking turns.
  • Listening and responding appropriately.
  • Understanding social boundaries.
  • Respecting personal space.
  • Resolving disagreements.
  • Making and maintaining friendships.
  • Asking for assistance.
  • Self-advocacy.
  • Appropriate use of technology and social media when applicable.
Relationship Development
  • Identify opportunities to meet people with shared interests.
  • Participate in clubs and community groups.
  • Invite others to participate in activities.
  • Maintain existing friendships.
  • Develop appropriate communication skills.
  • Practice social boundaries.
  • Develop natural supports.
Independence and Choice-Making
  • Who they participate with.
  • How they travel to activities when appropriate.
  • How they spend their leisure time.

Attendance Policy
Creative Minds ADP Inc. will make every effort to ensure attendance as determined by the individual served.
For individuals served under the age of 18, the caregiver must attend 100% of the sessions and are an integral part of the service team. No refunds for missed sessions.
