AST Program:

Creative Minds’ Adaptive Skills Training  program mission is to enhance the value, dignity, and quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities.

The purpose of Creative Minds Adaptive Skills Training (AST) program is to coach individuals with developmental disabilities on improving their functional skills. Creative Minds AST services are provided in natural community environments. AST activities are therefore conducted as part of each service recipient ’s everyday life: in their own home/living arrangement and in their own local community. The skills that the Adaptive Skill Training program may focus on are personal hygiene, socialization, communication, self-skills, and community integration. Services are provided to recipients ages six and older.

Job Summary:       

The AST Program Manager reports to the Program Director and is responsible for the selection, training, and supervision of assigned staff. The AST Program Manager  plans, manages and coordinates and/or evaluates assigned staff efforts to achieve Creative Minds program’s objectives and service recipient outcomes. This includes coordinating with the regional center the implementation of service recipients IEP/IPP objectives that Creative Minds is responsible for, identifying barriers to service recipient success in obtaining the IEP/IPP objective(s) and solutions to problem areas, and assessing the program’s effectiveness in achieving service recipient IEP/IPP objectives.

All staff working directly with service recipients are employees of Creative Minds and not contracted. Must pass fingerprint clearance and health screening, possess a valid California driver’s license and have First Aid and CPR certificates.

Key Functions:      

The Manager will partners with service recipients and staff to ensure that individual plans are implemented and revised as needed. AST Program Manager responsibilities are as follows.

  1. Implement program assignments as directed by the Program Director.
  2. Develop and provide training support for parents and care providers.
  3. Develop and provide training programs for Creative Minds AST staff.
  4. Partners with service recipients to review initial skills.
  5. Completes biweekly payroll.
  6. Completes monthly billing report.
  7. Ensures that service recipient incidents are reported promptly, accurately and in a timely manner. SIRs must be completed and submitted to AST Program Manager within 24 hours.
  8. Ensures and maintains the 1:1 AST staffing ratio at all time.
  9. Create weekly AST schedules.
  10. Generate ISP reports and submits them to the regional center Service Coordinator.
  11. Attend weekly supervision with the Program Director.
  12. Attends bi-annual meetings with service recipients and regional center if attendance is required.
  13. Participates in new staff hiring process.
  14. Conducts an annual service recipient satisfaction survey.
  15. Conducts Annual Program Evaluation and Outcomes Management Survey.
  16. Work in accordance with agency regulations, Title 17 and 22 regulations and agency requests.
  17. Conduct quality assurance visits.
  18. Available by phone during AST business hours.
  19. Any other job-related duties as assigned by the Program Director.

Job Requirements/Evaluation Factors:

Must possess good communication skills, written and oral. Must have supervisory skills and experience and good communication skills, written and oral. Must possess a master’s degree in one of the following: education, psychology, counseling, nursing, social work, applied behavior analysis, behavioral medicine, speech and language, or rehabilitation; and have at least one year of experience in the design and implementation of adaptive skills training plans. Moderate to intermittent physical effort is required. The working conditions include a typical office environment at times, assisting service recipients and staff inside and outside custodial care. Must be able to provide staff training, supervision, and planning. Must be available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
